German Logistics Award 2023: Tech-Startup Modility awarded

Hamburg-based LogTech startup Modility, a subsidiary of HHLA Next, has been named a finalist in this year's German Logistics Award by the Bundesvereinigung Logistik (BVL). BVL awards the prestigious prize annually to companies that stand out for their excellent performance and innovative initiatives in the logistics industry.

"We are very pleased to have convinced the jury with our digital booking portal for combined transport and to have made it to the finalist round as a startup" stated Hendrik-Emmanuel Eichentopf, Managing Director of Modility GmbH. "The award shows that we have not only developed a good concept with Modility, but are also on the right track in terms of implementation. We will continue to pursue this with determination in order to actively contribute to shaping the future of rail freight transport in Europe."

Currently, the smart booking and brokerage portal already includes more than 800 train connections from numerous operators for various types of equipment such as containers, semi-trailers, swap bodies or tank containers. Options for pre- and on-carriage can also be booked at more than 80 percent of the connected terminals. In addition to the high transparency of transport options in combined transport, the main advantage is the immediate booking option: Thus, users receive an overview of suitable offers in response to their individual search queries in less than a minute and can book these directly with the operator.

Successfully completed multi-stage evaluation process

In the multi-stage evaluation process consisting of an online questionnaire, interview, detailed application documents and on-site audit, Modility left numerous established companies and their projects behind. The auditors were particularly surprised by how much manual work is still involved in combined transport today. Modility is now automating and digitizing manual, repetitive processes, which clearly offers great potential.

The audit also included a customer visit to Transworld Shipping. There, the auditors used actual transport orders to learn how the booking portal supports the search for suitable partners in rail freight transport and simplifies disposition. "We have been using Modility for many months and are impressed every time how the online portal makes the complex rail system simpler and accessible," says Timo Westerhuys, authorized signatory of Transworld Shipping GmbH.

German Logistics Award as a motivation for next steps

According to BVL Chairman Dr. Thomas Wimmer, the Modility team presented a practical solution with a high level of identification and enthusiasm. "We hope that the award is a motivation to continue on the track we have started and to further expand our success with innovative ideas and consistent implementation."
